Erik Pears was back on the Raiders practice field, so even though the Raiders.com transactions page doesn’t show it, he’s be re-signed in place of Stevie Brown. Along with Pears, Walter McFadden (hamstring), Hiram Eugene (hamstring), Michael Bush (thumb) and Richard Seymour (hamstring) were all back and practicing.
There was no sign of Robert Gallery (hamstring), Travis Goethel (back), or Chaz Schilens (knee).
It looks like the starter is going to be Bruce Gradkowski, but I won’t know until Tom Cable announces it. Gradkowski was taking turns passing to teammates during the short part we were allowed to see. Of the three quarterbacks, Gradkowski was the only one taking rep’s with starters such as Darrius Heyward-Bey or Darren McFadden.
Media has to leave the practice field prior to the Raiders beginning team drills, but on the way off the field, it appeared that the first quarterback under center was going to be Gradkowski. He was moving behind the line and Jason Campbell was off to the side with his helmet off.
The Raiders allowed the media to interview Hue Jackson earlier today, and I’ll have more on that later, but Jackson told us that he was the one that went to Cable during Sunday’s halftime and suggested putting Gradkowski in for the second half. The offensive coordinator also misspoke during the press conference when talking about Campbell, by saying, “That’s why he’s our starting quarterback.”
So, until Cable speaks today, nobody outside of the organization knows for sure who the starting quarterback will be Sunday.
DHB and Louis Murphy were getting some practice catching the ball while being held — something they had trouble doing against the Rams. Even though they’d rather just get the pass interference penalty, it helps an official make that call if they can also make the catch.
