I’ll have more on this a little later, but Tom Cable officially announced that Bruce Gradkowski would be his starting quarterback going forward. Cable mentioned that the reasons were “pretty simple.”
“We are going to start Bruce Gradkowski at quarterback. The reasons are pretty simple. I think there’s two of them. First and foremost is the energy and I think the level of intensity that was brought into the huddle when he came into the game. The guys, the way they responded around him. And then, obviously, he was scoring points. And if you look back to the preseason, even at that time, in the two games he played in he scored points. And I think that’s really what we’re about. If we can get this thing to where we can score 24 points a game, I think we’ll be very tough to beat.”
Jason Campbell was notified by Cable said that he’s disappointed with the decision, but that he’ll likely get another opportunity to play this season if Gradkowski is ineffective or gets injured.
Cable also said that the decision was made with the coaches, but that he was where the buck stops and it was his call. The question as to whether Al Davis had any input on the decision also came up, but Cable said that the decision was solely on the coaching staff, but mainly on himself.
More to come…
One other thing to note. From earlier, I missed that DT John Henderson wasn’t practicing today. He was held out as a precautionary measure due to a minor foot injury. Cable said that it won’t have any impact on him playing on Sunday.
The media got an opportunity to talk with Ken Whisenhunt today and when asked about what he thought of Darren McFadden, Arizona’s head coach said, “Dangerous running back.” He also said that he’s, “been very impressed with what I’ve seen.“
