On a day where we’re expecting to find out who the new starting quarterback is going to be this Sunday, the Raiders waived rookie safety Stevie Brown and came to an injury settlement with wide receiver Jonathan Holland.
Brown, according to a radio personality in Florida, had been waived coming out of camp in order to keep Mike Mitchell against the coaching staff’s wishes. At the time, it was uncertain that Brown would make it through waivers in order for the Raiders to sign him to their practice squad. It’s uncertain that the Raiders are planning to do the same this time around.
Brown was called off the practice squad Sunday after the Raiders cut newly re-signed offensive lineman Erik Pears. Should Pears get signed again, it might be a sign that left guard Robert Gallery’s hamstring injury is not close to being healthy.
Holland has been with the Raiders for three years, mostly as a receiver. In 2009, he briefly filled in as a defensive back when the Raiders were short on healthy players for the position. If Holland returns to Oakland as a player, it won’t be until the end of this season.
More to come…
