Longtime Raiders fans might recall a Bruce Davis from the 80’s who wore the silver and black. That Bruce Davis played offensive tackle for 11 years from 1979 to 1989, after being drafted in the 11th round (294th overall) from UCLA by Oakland.
Sam Williams was very blunt about his feelings for the San Diego Chargers, the Raiders upcoming opponent this Sunday. In fact, Williams said that he’s not the only one in the Raiders locker room with these feelings. “We don’t like the Chargers at all,” said Williams of the divisional foe. “We don’t like anything about them.”
Miscellaneous post game quotes from the Raiders’ 24-31 loss to the Texans.
The last time the Raiders played the Houston Texans, (October 4, 2009) it was NFL Breast Cancer Awareness week — except that game was back in Houston. The Raiders again face the Texans wearing pink cleats, but hope that they can fare better than they did last year when they lost 29-6. I will be updating this section throughout the game, but for play-by-play, you’ll have to go elsewhere. After…
Bruce Gradkowski spoke with the media today during the locker room session. Half the media peppered Gradkowski with questions out on the field while the other half went to the locker room for other players. There’s a limited amount of time that the Raiders allow for media access, so the small group was hopeful to maximize what little time there is.
I’ll have more on this a little later, but Tom Cable officially announced that Bruce Gradkowski would be his starting quarterback going forward. Cable mentioned that the reasons were “pretty simple.”
Erik Pears was back on the Raiders practice field, so even though the Raiders.com transactions page doesn’t show it, he’s be re-signed in place of Stevie Brown. Along with Pears, Walter McFadden (hamstring), Hiram Eugene (hamstring), Michael Bush (thumb) and Richard Seymour (hamstring) were all back and practicing.
On a day where we’re expecting to find out who the new starting quarterback is going to be this Sunday, the Raiders waived rookie safety Stevie Brown and came to an injury settlement with wide receiver Jonathan Holland.
I’ll be updating this page throughout the day with some of my observations.
Just after getting here, I overheard one of the Raiders’ P.R. guys telling Ron Pitts of Fox that Erik Pears had been cut. Later on I got verification, so here it is. Pears, after signing on earlier this week, was cut in order to make room on the roster for rookie safety Stevie Brown. Most likely, the Raiders did that because Hiram Eugene (hamstring) is on the inactive list for the game.
When the week began, reporters questioned Tom Cable about any possible changes to the offensive line. Very few, if any, considered that Jared Veldheer was part of that loaded question. Normally when questioning someone, you have two or three parts to the question as long as the answer leads in the right direction.
