The Raiders will need to figure out what it is that prevents them from being a winning organization this week. The rule for getting over wins and losses is 24 hours — but that is for the players. Raiders fans most likely will take the entire week for this one, and 49ers fans will be sure to extend that sorrow for as long as they can.
The Oakland Raiders (2-4) hoped to come into Candlestick Park and get their second straight victory for the first time since the end of 2008, and they began the game like they would get it. Even while leading for most of the game, the Raiders weren’t able to find an offensive rhythm after the first quarter, and it led to a 17-9 loss to the San Francisco 49ers (1-5).
Earlier in the week, the Raiders locker room was plastered with a quote from former Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer. The gist of the quote was that the Raiders don’t play 60 minutes and if any team hangs in there, the Raiders will give the game away in the end.
Darren McFadden still isn’t practicing and neither is Michael Bennett. That will leave a gaping hole for Michael Bush to reclaim the starting position, and for fellow backs Rock Cartwright and Marcel Reece to also step in for carries on Sunday.
Miscellaneous post game quotes from the Raiders’ 24-31 loss to the Texans.
The biggest worry for the Oakland Raiders (1-2) coming into their third-week game with the Arizona Cardinals (2-1) wasn’t their special teams. After losing to the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, 24-23, by allowing an opening kickoff return touchdown and three missed field goals, it will be their biggest worry for the coming week. 16 years ago, this game between the Rams and the Raiders was called the battle of Los Angeles. Today, it’s a battle of ineptitude. The Raiders, trying to avoid a record eighth straight 10+ loss season, will host the Rams, trying to win their second game in the last 28 contests. Kickoff is 1:05 PM PST, Sunday at at the Coliseum.
Tom Cable addressed the media Monday to discuss the Raiders 38-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans in week one of the NFL season.
The following is a transcript of that press conference.
Just got back into the press room from talking to some of the players in the locker room.
The team is definitely not in mid-season form. I’m not talking about the way they played on Sunday, but the fact that most of the players were still in the locker room when the handful of reporters were allowed to enter their locker room this morning. Normally, when our time comes to enter, there might be about 15 players at their lockers — and nearly half of those guys quickly find something to do in another part of the building upon seeing us come through the door. Today, when we walked in, there may have been around 25 players taking a little down time before meetings began.
